Bangalow Public School

Bangalow Public School was founded in 1884 and was originally known as Byron Creek Provisional School.  The present site was occupied around 1891 and the School was renamed Bangalow Public School in 1907.

The School has an attractive physical environment and a well-equipped playground that includes shelter area and shade cloth over the modern fixed equipment.

The aim of the school is to provide an environment that is best suited to the individual, physical, emotional and social development of the children.

Literacy and numeracy are maintained as the school focus areas.  These have been enhanced by the development of strong music and sports programs that encourage students to be involved in physical, creative and cultural pursuits.

A major recent initiative has been the school’s involvement in the Tootie Fruity Veggie Healthy Lifestyle Project and its associated Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes in the A & I Hall.  This project continues to develop and involves partnerships with other groups in the community. (2005)

Fernleigh Public School

Fernleigh is a rural community 18km north of Ballina.  Our school is set on a small acreage of grass playground amidst native, rainforest and exotic trees on a ridgeline overlooking green rolling hills with views of the ocean.  This most picturesque and peaceful setting is unique.

Out students are our most important asset.  We provide them with interesting and meaningful learning programs which recognise individual stages of development and which allow them to pursue their interests and talents, enabling full potential to be reached.  We nurture self esteem, encourage caring treatment of others and guide out students towards responsible self direction.

We recognise the importance of our school as a focal point for the residents of Fernleigh.  We will encourage interaction between our community and our school for mutual benefit, enjoyment and enrichment. (2005)

Newrybar Public School

Newrybar Public School is a charming little school which has been at its present location in Broken Head Road since 1900.

The school is set in beautiful spacious grounds, that include a sports oval, large sandpit and playground climbing equipment.

The interior and exterior of the buildings are painted bright and vibrant colours which are synonymous with the community and environment in which it is located.

While our academic focus is on English and maths, dance, art, music and sport are all actively practised at Newrybar.

Our enthusiastic, friendly parent body provides the school with an abundance of support and practical help.  There is a large well equipped canteen providing the children with a good range of healthy food.

The P & C meet regularly and have one major fundraiser each year, which is our Fireworks Night, this year held on 18 June 2005.

Enrolment inquiries are always welcome. (2005)

Bangalow Playgroup

10am – 12noon Tuesdays – Anglican Church Hall

Bangalow Playgroup is a great way for parents of children 0-5 to get together, to chat and to play with their kids. We welcome all parents – both male and female – to join the fun every Tuesday (during school term).

Using a roster system, each week different parents take turns coordinating morning tea and craft activities. For $2 a week (to cover hall hire costs) as well as a general Playgroup membership fee of $27 a year (to cover insurance and ensures members receive Totline – the NSW Playgroup Association magazine), parents and kids get together to have some fun.

Bangalow Playgroup has a great range of equipment and activities and we often hear how much parents from the region enjoy our group. If you’re new to the area or new to parenthood, why not give us a call or just pop in to say hello. The kids love it, the parents love it and it means we all get an opportunity to talk with other parents and see we’re not as alone in the parenting stakes as we may have first thought.

It’s a great way to compare notes and situations (and behaviours too – who knew how difficult 2 and 3 could really be!) with other parents. Let’s face it we’re all in the same boat!

Bangalow Playgroup also likes to organise a social outing for parents at least once a term – usually dinner at a local venue! And we also like to hold excursions for kids and parents to local attractions a couple of times a year.

We’d love to see you there! (2005)
